CFP Flag Football Showcase Opens the Door for Youth Teams in Las Vegas

For years, youth flag football players have watched the biggest stages from a distance — Olympic broadcasts, NFL FLAG’s summer championships, maybe a college showcase here and there. That distance just got a lot shorter. The College Football Playoff announced this week that youth teams will share the field with adults at a brand-new event, during the single biggest weekend in college football.

What’s Happening

On August 31, the CFP announced it’s partnering with iFlag to launch the inaugural CFP Flag Football Showcase, set for January 22-24, 2027, inside CFP Fan Central at the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The showcase runs during College Football Playoff National Championship week, just days before the title game kicks off at Allegiant Stadium on January 25.

Unlike most college football fan events, this one puts athletes on the field instead of in the stands. It’s an open invitational built around:

▸ Men’s and women’s teams, competing separately

▸ Youth and adult divisions, across multiple skill levels

▸ Pool play leading into single-elimination brackets

▸ A guaranteed three games per team

“The CFP Flag Football Showcase is our opportunity to introduce fans already tuned in to college football toward what’s next,” said Ryan Allen Hall, CFP Senior Director. iFlag founder and CEO Charles Davis added that the event gives athletes “the opportunity to compete inside CFP Fan Central while experiencing the pageantry, traditions, and excitement of college football’s biggest weekend.”

What It Means for Your League

This matters beyond one weekend in Las Vegas. Flag football has spent the last few years building legitimacy at the high school and college level, but national stages built specifically for youth teams have been rare outside of NFL FLAG’s summer event. A showcase tied to the College Football Playoff — one of the most-watched properties in American sports — puts youth players in front of a completely new audience of fans, coaches, and college recruiters.

For league organizers, it’s another signal that major sports properties are betting on flag football year-round, not just as a summer program. That kind of investment tends to filter down into more tournament opportunities and stronger training resources at the local level.
