Premier Flag Is Official: What the NFL's New Pro League Means for Your Young Flag Football Player

The pro flag football league finally has a name — and a date. For every kid who dreams of playing at the highest level, the path just got a lot more real.

On November 3, the NFL and TMRW Sports unveiled Premier Flag, a professional flag football league for women and men set to launch in summer 2027. Backed by an investor group that includes all 32 NFL club owners, the league will play in what organizers call the first purpose-built flag football stadium, designed with Populous. The host city has not been announced yet.

What We Know So Far

→ Launch: Summer 2027, ahead of flag football's Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

→ Talent search: Players are being identified through combines, starting in London this October, with Mexico City set for November 22-23. Top performers advance to a Premier Flag Combine in 2027.

→ Showcase: An inaugural Premier Flag Showcase is planned for Super Bowl LXI week in Los Angeles.

→ Still to come: Team count, format, season length and pay have not been released.

Why It Matters for Youth Flag Football

Pro leagues do not start with pros. They start with the 4.1 million young players in the U.S. who learn to pull flags, run routes and read defenses on local fields. Premier Flag adds a visible top rung to a ladder that already runs through youth leagues, high school, college programs and international play.

That is exciting, but keep it in perspective. The first Premier Flag players are today's adults and college athletes, not today's 10-year-olds. For kids now in elementary and middle school, the real value is that a long-term goal exists. Parents and organizers can use that to keep kids motivated while still putting fun and fundamentals first.

How to Turn the Hype Into Progress

▸ Play more reps. Join a league and add a tournament or two this year to face new competition.

▸ Build skills in the off-season. Look into camps and training to sharpen routes, flag pulling and quarterback habits.

▸ Get noticed. Create an athlete profile so coaches and scouts can find your player's highlights and stats.

▸ Girls and women have a clear runway. Explore girls flag football teams as more states sanction the sport.

The Bottom Line

Premier Flag will not change what a great youth season looks like: kids who love the game, coaches who teach it well, and families who show up. Organizers who want to make the most of this moment can list their league or event so more players can find a team. Then talk with your young athlete about their goals, and help them take the next step.
