The College Football Playoff is officially in the flag football business.
The CFP and iFlag announced the inaugural CFP Flag Football Showcase, set for January 22–24, 2027 at CFP Fan Central inside the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The tournament runs as part of championship weekend, with the 2027 CFP National Championship kicking off January 25 at Allegiant Stadium.
The showcase will feature men's and women's teams across youth and adult divisions. Every team is guaranteed three games — pool play followed by a single-elimination bracket.
Registration opens September 17 at 4 p.m. on iFlag's website. If the last two years of flag growth are any indicator, spots won't sit open long. Vegas during championship weekend is a trip families will build a season around.
This isn't a one-off promo event. It's the CFP — the organization that crowns college football's national champion — putting flag football inside its biggest weekend of the year.
Look at the pattern:
The Fiesta Sports Foundation launched the first Division I women's collegiate flag tournament this past April at Arizona State. The NCAA added flag football to its Emerging Sports for Women program in January. More than 150 NCAA institutions now offer flag at the club or varsity level. Nebraska became the first Power Four school to add women's flag as a varsity scholarship sport. And flag makes its Olympic debut in Los Angeles in 2028.
Now the CFP is building a youth and adult tournament into championship week. The institutions that run football in this country are betting on flag as the front door to the sport.
If you coach a competitive youth team, this is the kind of event that belongs on your 2026–27 planning calendar now — not after registration opens. Travel, roster commitments, and fundraising conversations take months. January in Las Vegas is a real trip for most families, and the teams that show up prepared will be the ones that started the conversation early.
For players, this is another national stage that didn't exist a year ago. The runway from youth flag to high school varsity to college programs to the Olympics keeps getting more defined. Events like this are where that pipeline becomes visible.
We'll update this post as divisions, pricing, and format details are released.
